Chin Augmentation

The chin is often an overlooked area of the face yet it plays a crucial role in the overall facial balance and aesthetics. The chin may appear prominent (strong), recessed (weak) and even asymmetrical.

How the chin appears is primarily genetic and we cannot change our genetic makeup. Sometimes, the chin can change secondary to trauma and in rare cases cancer. As we grow older, the chin can change as we lose bone and soft tissue along with thinning of the skin.

In the past, surgical intervention was the only option available to address concerns of the chin. Surgical options include the placement of a permanent implant, or more complex procedures to move the jaw forward or backward.

Today, nonsurgical options are also available and have become increasingly popular. Dermal fillers can be used to enhance chin projection, improve symmetry, and create a more balanced profile. These injectable treatments are minimally invasive, customizable, and require little to no downtime. While the results are temporary—typically lasting 12 to 18 months—they offer a convenient and effective alternative for those who are not ready or do not wish to undergo surgery. There is one newer filler that can last 3 to 15 years.
