Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra

Dermatosis papulosa nigra is a benign condition that generally affects African Americans. It affects up to 35% of African Americans but can affect darker-skinned Asians. It consists of multiple dark-raised lesions. The lesions generally affect the cheeks and areas around the eyes but may affect the neck and chest.

Double Chin

Double chin, also known as submental fat, is a common condition. Submental fat forms an excess layer of fat that collects below the chin when skin laxity leads to loose skin.

Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating is when you sweat through clothes with normal daily activities. Some patients will sweat through a t-shirt, normal shirt and a sweatshirt even without significant physical activity.

Facial Skin Laxity

Facial skin laxity refers to loose, sagging skin. Facial skin laxity can be caused by various factors including age, genetics, extreme weight loss, smoking, etc.,

Facial Veins

Facial veins tend to occur more as we age and generally start to be visible around age 40 but we do see them in much younger patients. The exact cause of facial veins developing is not completely understood. We do know that there are some associated factors to include: sun exposure, genetics, natural aging, and some medical conditions such as hypertension and rosacea.

Frown Lines

Frown lines are the vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows as we age. Sun damage and volume loss also play a role in the development of frown lines.

Gauged Earlobes

Gauged earlobes, or ear stretching, is accomplished by slowly stretching out a piercing with what are called gauges. The gauges get bigger over time and when they are removed the gauges leave a large hole in the earlobe.

Gummy Smile

A gummy smile can be caused by multiple factors. Factors include hyperactive muscles that elevate your upper lip when you smile, abnormal development of the upper jaw or the way the gums formed.

Hypertrophic and Keloid Scarring

Hypertrophic scars are thick raised scars that are due to the overproduction of collagen within a wound. Keloid scars are also an abnormal response to injury but they can grow outside the boundaries of the original injury.

Chin/Jawline Jowls

The term "jowls" is used to describe drooping or sagging skin below the chin or jawline. Almost anyone can develop jowls as they age because of various factors.

Large Pores

As we age our skin loses some of the collagen and elastin that supports the pore opening. As this happens, the pores may become more visible. Genetics can also play a role in pore size and men tend to have larger pores

Lip Lines - Upper or Lower Lip

Lip lines are the vertical lines around your mouth and can form on both the upper and lower lips. The upper lip lines tend to be more prominent than those on the lower lip.

Melasma Pigmentation

Melasma is patches of dark pigmentation often found on the cheeks, temples, upper lip, chin, bridge of the nose, and forehead. It is most commonly found in women but will occasionally affect men.

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial Folds are sometimes referred to as “smile lines” or “laugh lines”. These are the line that run from the edge of the nose to the corner of the mouth.

Nevus of Ota

Nevus of Ota is a hyperpigmented lesion that forms around the eye and may even include the eye. It may be present at birth or it may start to appear during puberty.

Pigmented Lesions

Pigmented skin lesions are lesions that are brown, black or blue in color, or might be confused with brown or black lesions. For example, vascular lesions, which sometimes look black with the naked eye but under dermatoscopy appear red, purple or blue.

Poikiloderma of Civatte

Poikiloderma is a reddish-brown discoloration seen most commonly on the neck, cheeks and chest. You will see small blood vessels in the area along with pigmentation in the skin.

Rosacea Inflammation

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin disorder that causes redness to the cheeks, nose and chin. It may affect the eyes with dryness, irritation and they may become red.

Solar Elastosis

Solar elastosis is a condition where the collagen has been destroyed and there is an abnormal accumulation of elastic tissue in the skin. The skin can appear as yellowish, thickened and rough skin.

Skin Tags, Bumps, or Growths

Skin tags (acrochordon) are small growths of skin that are usually connected to the skin by a small stalk. They are soft bumps that can be skin colored or may appear brown.

Strawberry Legs

Many women experience small black or red dots on their legs, also known as a condition called Strawberry Legs. It can appear as a dotted or pitted appearance, darkened or open pores, or an appearance of brown or black dots on the legs after shaving.

Seborrheic Keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis (SK) are very common and can appear as light tan, brown or black lesions on the skin. SKs are generally raised but may be initially flat.

Spider Veins

Spider veins appear as fine red or blue lines or a web-like network of blood vessels on the surface of the skin. They are a mild form of varicose veins and typically appear on the legs and thighs but can develop on the sides of the feet or ankles and even the face.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are long scars also called striae distensae. They can look like indented streaks across the skin. When the connective tissue of the dermis stretches beyond its limits, they form.

Thin Lips/Lip Volume

As we age, we lose volume in our face and that can affect the lips. The lips will deflate and then lose the color. The edges of the lips called the vermillion border also become less well defined as we age.

Volume Loss

Facial volume loss happens naturally with age, weight loss, sun exposure, smoking, injuries and other medical conditions. As a full and round face begins to lose volume, the face can appear older and thin.

Face and Body Wrinkles

Wrinkles happen as an effect of a variety of factors including sun exposure, alcohol consumption, lifestyle, genetics, etc. Wrinkles can appear as early as adolescence. They develop in different areas of the face, neck, chest, hands, above the knees, and around the elbows.
