Sculptra: Changing the Face of Wrinkle Fillers
The true problem of aging, cosmetically speaking, is loss of volume and collagen in the face. Collagen is responsible for skin elasticity, and as it degrades this leads to wrinkles that accompany aging. Sculptra is a dermal filler that causes the body to make collagen in the areas injected. As Sculptra causes new collagen to form deep within the dermis, the result is a gradually restored look of fullness that has been depleted over time. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The result is a more youthful looking appearance that can last up to two years.
Many of the current fillers are really only a good choice for filling smaller areas such as the areas around your nose and extending to the corners of the mouth called the naso-labial folds. Sculptra is not used as a wrinkle filler but for overall loss of volume and is more suited for larger areas of the face such as in the temporal region and cheeks. The addition of Sculptra will increase our ability to more effectively treat the loss of volume in the face and the resulting wrinkles that are associated with it.
