How Does Ideal Protein Work?

I deal protein is based upon how our body chooses to burn energy. Our bodies preferentially will burn carbohydrates (sugars) as its first source of energy, then protein, and then fats. The Ideal Protein Diet is based upon these proven facts. In order for your body to lose weight you must deplete the carbohydrates from your blood stream in order to start burning fat. The goal of the Ideal protein diet is to deplete the glycogen stores which are long chains of sugars found in your muscles. This will take about 3 days to occur on the diet and then you will start to burn protein and fat. It is also important to maintain enough protein in your diet or your body will start to burn protein for energy and you will begin to lose muscle.

This is the most important part of the Ideal Protein protocol as it supplies high quality protein that is easily available for your body to use as energy so that you do not lose muscle once your glycogen stores are depleted. This will allow your body to primarily burn fat from as an energy source. There are numerous studies that show simple diets based upon calorie restriction can induce the loss of both fat and muscle so it is very important to maintain enough lean protein intake with high bio-availability to avoid this problem.

The Ideal Protein diet will provide enough protein to avoid loss of muscle mass and some feel that their muscle mass has increased with the Ideal Protein diet.
