ActivFx DeepFx TotalFx Questions
How does the Active FX work and what does it accomplish?
Active FX treatments utilize laser technology to remove a controlled 30 millionths of an inch of skin tissue at a time. These thin layers of skin that are removed are then replaced by newer skin growth. Additionally, heat causes collagen deposition and results continue to evolve over the ensuing 3-6 months. The treatments offer all of the benefits of a deep chemical peel, without all the chemicals or the harmful side effects. It gives a much more uniform and consistent result than deep chemical peeling and dermabrasion. It softens the damage inflicted to your skin from sun, aging and biological factors and reveals healthier, younger-looking skin. The treatment if often used in conjunction with skin care programs to maintain healthy, vibrant skin. Below is a list of skin improvements that the peels are typically used for.
- Improves skin texture
- Brown spots and splotchy, uneven skin
- Decreases pore size
- Softens fine lines and acne scars
- Brightens the complexion
- Helps promotes new skin growth
- Loose eyelid skin and crow’s feet around the eyes
- Loose skin around the neck and jowls

Am I a good candidate for Active FX?
Active FX treatments have been successful in treating such skin conditions such as wrinkles, scars, acne scars, and pigmentary problems in both women and men of all skin colors. It is effective for all skin colors and ideal for sun-damaged skin. The procedure is geared toward people who expect better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels but have little time for an extensive recovery.
^top
Why do I need to have a consultation for Active FX?
A consultation is necessary prior to scheduling your Active FX treatment. The consultation allows Dr. Hansen to determine your skin type, the appropriate laser necessary for your treatment, and if this would be the best treatment for your particular skin condition. You may find, during your consultation, that other treatments available in the clinic may benefit your skin condition better. Some treatments may also require a skin care regimen before beginning your treatment. The only way to determine if this is necessary is by having the initial consultation with Dr. Hansen.
^top
How are Active FX treatments performed?
You will need to discontinue use of retinal products and alpha or beta hydroxy acids at least 7 days prior to treatment but you may resume their use the day following treatment. A prescription for Acyclovair will be given to you prior to your procedure to help prevent any viral infections or cold sores. You will need to start taking this the day before your treatment. A topical gel anesthesia is applied in the office to anesthetize the skin that will be treated. Dr. Hansen then uses the Active FX’s high energy laser to remove the superficial layer of skin. The laser light is absorbed by the water in your skin and instantaneously vaporizes a very small amount of tissue. Dr. Hansen passes the laser light over your skin to remove a 30 millionths of an inch of tissue at a time. He can obtain the results you want while minimizing the erythema by treating only as deeply as needed, from removing wrinkles to merely refreshing your overall skin appearance. After the damage skin is removed, new skin quickly regrows in its place.
^top
How many Active FX treatments will I need?
One treatment for most but some patients perform yearly treatments for skin maintenance.
^top
How do I take care of my skin immediately after the Active FX treatment?
Active FX treatments may cause the skin to become raw, red or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for several days following the procedure. Cool compresses are helpful following treatment to decrease any swelling or irritation. If your skin is pigmented, you may actually experience darkening of these areas prior to improvement. You will need to sleep with your head elevated on 1 to 2 pillows for the first couple of days after your treatment. You will be given a moisturizer to liberally apply to your face several times daily. You will need to avoid the sun as much as possible. After you have healed, you will need to continually protect your new skin. In the early weeks and months following the treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage. If at all possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. If you must be in the sun for a short time, use sunscreen.
^top
What is the recovery like for Active FX?
Patient recovery from Active FX treatments is rapid. Of course everyone will heal at various rates depending on the depth of the treatment, the particular areas treated and your own healing rate. Light resurfacing around the eyes and lips in general take only a few days to heal. Most patients can be treated before the weekend and be almost completely healed by the beginning of the following week. A deep full facial resurfacing may take up to 2 to 3 weeks before you feel aesthetically comfortable to return to your normal activities. Symptoms immediately following the procedure resemble sunburn, with mild peeling on the second day and redness fading after the first couple of days. Any discomfort can easily be managed with a pain reliever.
^top
How much does the Active FX procedure cost?
Active FX treatment involves the use of sophisticated expensive laser equipment in order to deliver precise and effective energy pulses. During your initial consultation the areas to be treated will be determined and a fee quote per treatment session will be given to you. This fee involves the cost of the procedure, topical anesthetic, and postoperative visits. Our aim is to provide safe, effective and affordable laser treatments for patients. Please call 605-275-6128 to schedule an appointment.
^top
On the Day of Active FX Treatment
You will need to have someone drive you to and from the treatment – let them know that you will be at least 3 hours . Please don’t wear make up, or remove it upon arriving at the office. Bring sunglasses and a hat to protect your skin. Tape a paper bag to the window on your side of the car or sit in the middle of the back seat. You can not put UV block on your face for at least one week so will need to be very careful as sun exposure will damage skin and delay healing process. When you arrive, you will be photographed and then asked to read the consent, ask any questions you might have and sign the consent. A surgical hat will be placed to keep the numbing cream out of your hair. Your face and other sites to be treated) will be cleansed and then numbed with a topical Betacaine-Lidocaine-Tetracaine product for at least 60 minutes. If you are having your neck, chest or back treated you will be asked to change into to spa robe. Please bring appropriate loose clothing that you do not care about as the topical anesthetic can stain clothing. The topical anesthetic will be removed and laser protection goggles will be placed on you. If you are having the eyelid surface treated then you will have drops placed in your eyes and then metal protectors placed in your eyes. You will then be given local anesthesia injections just under the eyelid skin. The treatment will take approximately 20 – 90 minutes depending on number of areas treated.

Active FX Post-Treatment Instructions
Aquaphor will be placed in a thick coating and cold packs will then be applied for 10-15 minutes prior to your departure. You should use cold packs for at least 30 minutes of every hour while awake during the first 24 hours. You will be red everywhere that was treated. This redness feels very warm, but does not typically hurt. This redness will persist for at least 48 hours and then will evolve into a dark brown irregular appearance that will persist for at least 48 hours. If you have had a very deep treatment around your eyes (MAX FX) a redness that can be covered with make-up may persist for weeks. You will be seen post-op day one and the aquaphor will be removed and your face patted with distilled water/vinegar mix (distilled water (8 oz) with one tablespoon white vinegar). We will go over all of the contents of your laser kit bag and insure that you understand how to proceed. Day of Treatment – Do not wash your face or take a shower
Day 1 - We will wash your face and reapply the acquaphor. Do not wash your face or take a shower.
Day 2 - You can shower but don’t have the water spray directly onto the areas treated. You will use the distilled water (8 oz) with one tablespoon white vinegar combination twice today - just pat – do not rub. After “washing” your face apply a thin coating of acquaphor.
Day 3 - You can shower same as above.
Red areas – continue to treat as above. Hives sometimes form at the edge of the treated area that can be uncomfortable. Take 25 mg of Benedryl and apply cold compresses. Stop acquaphor in that region. If you are now brown with little red you can move to cleansing with the Cetaphil cleanser twice daily. Do not rub the face. Start epidermal lotion in am and transformation serum in pm on brown areas. If you feel dry or too tight you can use a small amount of acquaphor.
Take Benedryl 50 mg at bedtime to treat itching sensation. You will be seen on post-op day 3 and then day 5 – 7 depending on the depth of your treatment and then over the first post-operative month as needed.
During the first month you should avoid glycolic products and Retin A. You should avoid direct sunlight as much as possible in the days following your treatment, as UV block needs to be avoided until the skin is healed adequately. Once you are predominately brown you can resume your daily UV block. Once the brown is completely resolved, you should add the color science powder whenever going outdoors for at least the first six months to maximize your outcome.
Please call Dr. Hansen directly at 605-929-9173 if you have any questions or concerns.
Serious Problems that warrant immediate evaluation:
- Crusting
- Scabbing
- Vesicle formation
- Odd smell to face
- Fever, chills, malaise
An untreated infection can result in permanent scarring of the treated area.

BBL Questions
Does Laser Vein Reduction work on larger veins?
Vein removal works best on small veins and spider veins, but it can also be effective on medium sized reticular veins, although there is no way to tell for sure which veins will respond. A consultation to evaluate and assess your veins will be required. Prior surgery or treatment on your veins could affect the treatment outcome.
^top
How Long Does BBL Take?
This “lunchtime” procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes.
^top
What is IPL/ BBL treatment?
IPL (XEO) or BBL are gentle, pulsed light treatments that can effectively and comfortably remove sun and age spots.
^top
What areas can be treated with IPL/BBL?
Virtually any part of your body with sun and age spots or freckles can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders, and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have typically had the most sun exposure. Both discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.
^top
What does the IPL/BBL treatment feel like?
When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild brief pinching sensation.
^top
How many IPL/BBL treatments will I need?
Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas.
^top
How safe is the IPL/BBL treatment?
The treatment has been rigorously tested in clinical studies, has been FDA approved and is very safe. The pulsed light handpiece is designed to treat only pigment, not the surrounding skin or tissue.
^top
What happens after the IPL/BBL treatment? Any side effects?
Immediately following the treatment, the spots may start to darken. You may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next 1-3 weeks, darkened spots will fade and flake off.
^top
Will the spots reappear over time after the IPL/BBL treament?
No. New spots may appear. These too can be removed. Remember to liberally apply sunscreen to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots.

Botox Brow Lift Questions
Botox Brow Lift Questions
What is Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe lines between the brows, forehead and crows feet in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the FDA. One 10 minute treatment, a few tiny injections, and within days there is a noticeable improvement in the lines, which can last up to 4 months.
^top
Is the Botox treatment painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people return directly to work or normal activity following the treatment.
^top
Will I experience any side effects from the Botox treatment?
The most common side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. In addition, there may be some temporary soreness around the injection area.
^top
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural after the Botox treament?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes the lines is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.
^top
What will happen to the lines if I choose not to continue the Botox treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, the lines will gradually look like they did before treatment.
^top
Who should not use Botox cosmetics?
Botox should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Broad Band Light Questions
Broad Band Light Questions
How does Laser Vein Reduction work?
In unscientific terms, a laser "zaps" the vein it's targeting, causing the blood that has pooled there to heat up, resulting in the destruction of the vein.
^top
Will I need repeated Laser Vein Reduction treatments?
You'll see improvements after one visit, but up to three visits may be required for desired results. This will depend on the number and size of the veins being treated. In some cases, new spider veins may appear and additional treatments may be necessary. Treatments are recommended at 6 to 8 week intervals.
^top
How long does Laser Vein Reduction take?
Average treatment time should be around 15 to 30 minutes but may vary depending on the number and size of the vessel(s) to be treated.
^top
Does Laser Vein Reduction hurt?
Although many clients report little or no discomfort, some may experience a mild stinging sensation only when the laser pulse is delivered. The cold tip on the hand piece helps soothe the skin as the laser is delivered. A cooling system is also used to help cool the skin and minimize your discomfort.
^top
What about post treatment care for Laser Vein Reduction?
We encourage you to resume normal activities almost immediately, but do ask that you refrain from vigorous exercise and avoid hot tubs for at least 24 hours. Also, avoid direct sun exposure after treatment and if you do go in the sun, protect the treated area with a minimum SPF 30 sun block (not sunscreen).
^top
How Does BBL Work?
The gentle heat applied by the pulsed light soaks through to the skin layer underneath the surface. It penetrates those cells and stimulates them to produce collagen, which helps your skin revitalize itself.
^top
How Long Does BBL Take?
This “lunchtime” procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes.
^top
How Long Until I See Results after a BBL Treatment?
We generally recommend between 3 and 5 treatments for the best results, but you will see and feel smoother, softer and more even toned skin after just one treatment.
^top
Does BBL Hurt?
Your skin will feel warm during the application of pulsed light, and you may feel a slight snapping sensation.
^top
Can I Return To Normal Activities Immediately?
Yes! Your skin may be a bit red, but you can apply make-up right away. The only thing we ask is that you avoid direct sun exposure and be sure to apply a good sunscreen to your skin at all times.
^top
What is IPL/ BBL treatment?
IPL (XEO) or BBL are gentle, pulsed light treatments that can effectively and comfortably remove sun and age spots.
^top
What areas can be treated with IPL/BBL?

How many IPL/BBL treatments will I need?
Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas.
^top
What does the IPL/BBL treatment do?
The visible light delivered by the laser is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots on your skin. It’s the heating of the pigmented cells that causes the therapeutic effect.
^top
How safe is the IPL/BBL treatment?
The treatment has been rigorously tested in clinical studies, has been FDA approved and is very safe. The pulsed light handpiece is designed to treat only pigment, not the surrounding skin or tissue.

Chemical Peel Questions
How do chemical peels work?
Think of a light to moderate chemical peel as intensive exfoliation, ridding your face of dry, damaged surface cells to reveal a youthful and more radiant complexion. The process stimulates cell renewal, collagen synthesis and improves elasticity. It's safe, non-invasive and requires little to no downtime.
^top
Will my results be visible from a chemcical peel?
Like any other procedure, results vary from person to person. Our Skinceuticals Gel Peels are designed for light surface penetration, and can help visibly soften fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, reduce symptoms of oiliness and diminish the appearance of blemishes. Our deeper penetrating Obagi Blue Peel procedure is designed to significantly reduce fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, blemishes and improve skin tone and texture.
^top
What if I want to see a bigger difference from a chemical peel?
A light chemical peel is safe enough to combine with other LazaDerm procedures, such as microdermabrasion and IPL (photo facial), to enhance your results even more! You can also get the Obagi Blue Peel, which penetrates to a deeper level for more intense results.
^top
Will a Chemical Peel hurt?
You may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation during the first three to five minutes of the 30 minute session, otherwise, the procedure is fairly comfortable. With a Skinceuticals Gel Peel, you simply relax with the peel on your face, and after the treatment, you can return to regular activities. The more intense Obagi procedure will leave a slight blue tint on your face for up to 24 hours and you will probably want to take a day or two off from work and regular activities.
^top
Will my skin be sensitive after a chemical peel?
A little. You'll want to avoid excessive heat and sun exposure for two days following the procedure--we recommend sun block with transparent zinc oxide. Your skin may be sensitive, slightly red and perhaps even flaky for up to five days as your old skin continues to slough away and new skin emerges. But the great news is, your skin will likely feel tighter, smoother and softer than usual.
^top
What about side effects from Chemical Peels?
Side effects are extremely rare but do include burning, headaches, nausea, dizziness, scarring and infection. Less severe side effects may include temporary "hot spots" or crusting.
^top
What are my Alternatives to a Microlaser Peel?
CO2 Laser Resurfacing
Medium Depth Chemical Peel
^top
What is a light chemical peel?
Light chemical peels intensively exfoliate to accelerate the cell renewal process, stimulate collagen synthesis, and improve elastin fibers in the dermis, revealing a more youthful and radiant complexion. This safe, non-invasive procedure delivers results, yet requires no down time.
^top
What Results can I expect from a Chemical Peel?
Peels can help visibly soften fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, reduce symptoms of oiliness, and diminish the appearance of skin blemishes.
^top
What can I expect Pre and Post Chemical Peel treatment?
The entire procedure should take approximately 30 minutes. A slight stinging or burning sensation during the three to five minutes it takes for the peel to set is normal. Slight redness and skin sensitivity, as well as flaking can occur for a period of up to five days as it eliminates dead surface cells. Your skin will likely feel tighter, smoother, and softer than usual.
^top
What procedures can be used in conjunction with a chemical peel?
Our peels are designed to deliver optimal results when used in a series of applications. Enhanced results may also be obtained when used in conjunction with microdermabraision or IPL procedures.
^top
What are the possible side effects of a Chemical Peel?
Side effects resulting during or after a light chemical peel are extremely rare. However, those that could occur may include burning, headache, nausea, or dizziness. Less severe side effects may include temporary “hot spots” or crusting.
^top
How should I take of my skin Pre and Post Chemical Peel treatment?
Avoid excessive heat and direct sun exposure for two days following the peel. For optimal protection use a sunblock with transparent zinc oxide, and wait 24-28 hours before attempting strenuous activity.
^top
When should I avoid a chemical peel?
You should not have a chemical peel if you have used Accutane within the last 3 months or used any retinoic products within the last week, if you are pregnant or lactating, or if you have any open wounds, cuts abrasions, or Herpes outbreak. You should also not have a peel if you have had plastic surgery within the last 3-6 months. You should not have a Peel if you have an allergy to asprin. Patch testing for allergies if recommended prior to the facial peel.

Dysport Questions
What Are Cosmetic Fillers?
Fillers are materials that are placed into deeper lines and wrinkles. Filler agents typically are used for those wrinkles that are too deep to be treated with lasers. Most commonly filler agents are used for smile lines wrinkles, between the eyebrows, sagging cheekbones or to enhance the appearance of upper and lower lips. Acne, chicken pox and other depressed scars can also be improved.
^top
What are the available cosmetic Fillers?
Over the years a variety of filler agents have been successfully used. Each filler is a different material and the duration of filling may vary between the different substances.
Bovine collagen (Zyderm® and Zyplast®) was approved by the FDA 2 decades ago. It was the first filler agent to become very popular in the US . Typically it is used for smile lines and other wrinkles, lip enhancement and scar correction. Because bovine collagen is derived from cow collagen, skin tests on the arm are required in an attempt to determine collagen allergy. Results, after treatment, typically last 2-4 months.
Human collagen (Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast®) is used much like bovine collagen. Typically human collagen is used for smile lines and other wrinkles, lip enhancement and scar correction. These materials are among the more popular filler agents for lip enhancement or for the patient who likes collagen, but prefers not to have bovine collagen. In contrast to bovine collagen, human collagen treatment does not require skin tests. Results typically last 2-4 months.
Among the newer filler agents are those containing hyaluronic acid . This sugar like material is highly popular in Europe and Canada . Recent FDA studies have been led to the availability of 2 different hyaluronic acids (Restylane®, Juvederm® and Hylaform®). Generally skin tests are not required. The material is soft and is very popular for the treatment of smile lines. Results typically last 3-6 months.
Radiesse® is a filler agent made up of a calcium material called calcium hydroxylapatite. This material is approved by the FDA for vocal cord injections and has also been used for the treatment of wrinkles. It is unique among fillers in that results can last up to 1 year. This agent is very popular for those patients with deeper smile lines who want longer lasting results. Sculptra ® is included in the category of fillers, but is better called a skin volume enhancer. The injected substance is poly L-lactic acid. The material is used to treat sunken cheeks that result from the aging process. A series of injections over several months is required and the final improvement will take up to six months. The clinical benefit can also last up to 2 years.
^top
What Kind Of Reactions Can Occur After Cosmetic Filler Injections?
Reactions to filler agents are rare and generally resolve with time. Some common injection-related reactions might occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the implant site. They typically resolve spontaneously within several days after injection into the skin. Other types of reactions are very rare, but occasional patients do experience localized reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature. These have usually consisted of swelling at the implant site, sometimes affecting the surrounding tissues. Redness, tenderness and rarely acne-like formations can be seen.
^top
What Can I Do To Optimize Cosmetic Fillers Results?
Filler agents are ideally combined with BOTOX® injections that are used for wrinkles caused by too much muscle tone. Wrinkles such as frown lines, crow's feet, marionette lines and vertical lip lines are better treated with BOTOX® than a filler agent. Ideally anti-aging skin treatments will include not only filler agents and BOTOX®, but also skin collagen improvement lunch time laser procedures and skin tightening Thermage Non-Surgical Facelift treatment.

Erbium Resurfacing Questions
Erbium Resurfacing Questions
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
The technique directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at irregular skin. Laser skin resurfacing removes skin very precisely, layer by layer. This popular procedure is known by several other names, including lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization.
^top
Who Is a Good Candidate for Skin Resurfacing?
If you have fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes, mouth or on the forehead, scars from acne, or non-responsive skin after a facelift, then you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing.
If you have active acne or if you have very dark skin, you may not be a candidate. This technique is also not recommended for stretch marks. When you come in for your consultation, the staff at LazaDerm should be able to tell you if this procedure is right for you.
^top
What Can Be Expected from Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is performed on an outpatient basis, using local anesthesia (pain relief at the site of the procedure) in combination with orally- or intravenously-administered sedative medications to help you relax during the procedure.
Wrinkles around the eyes, mouth or forehead may be treated individually, or a full-face resurfacing may be performed.
^top
How Long Does Laser Sking Resurfacing Take?
A partial-face procedure takes 30-45 minutes and the full-face treatment takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
^top
What Happens After Laser Resurfacing?
Following laser resurfacing, a sterile dressing is applied to the treatment sites. When the dressings are removed (usually after 1 to 3 days) the patient then cleans the treated areas two to five times a day with cool tap water saline or a dilute vinegar solution. An ointment is then applied. This wound care is intended to prevent any scab formation. In general, the areas heal in 10-21 days, depending on the nature of the condition that was treated.
Once the areas have healed, makeup may be worn to camouflage the pink to red color that is generally seen after laser skin resurfacing. Green-based make-ups are particularly suitable for this camouflage since they neutralize the red color. Oil-free make-ups are recommended after laser resurfacing. The redness in the laser-treated sites generally fades in two to three months but may take as long as six months to completely disappear. The redness generally persists longer in blondes and redheads.
Patients with darker skin tones have a greater risk of healing with darker pigmentation. This may be minimized by use of a bleaching agent before laser skin resurfacing as well as continued use of this agent after healing.
^top
What Are the Possible Complications with Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is one of our more invasive procedures, which means you may experience a number of minor side effects during the healing process—which can take up to 21 days. However, unlike many of our other procedures, the effects of laser skin resurfacing can last for years. Discuss your options with Dr. Hansen, and find out if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

Fraxel Laser Questions
What does the Fraxel Laser do?
The Fraxel Laser utilizes a new technology called Fractional Resurfacing. With Fractional Resurfacing, only a fraction of the skin receives the laser light. The laser delivers a series of microscopic, closely spaced laser "columns" to the skin while simultaneously preserving the skin between the columns. This preservation of unaffected skin results in rapid healing following the laser treatment. The entire face can be treated with the laser in approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Side effects are minimal, usually swelling and redness, with little risk of infection or scarring.
^top
How often will I need to get Fraxel Laser treatment?
We suggest three to six treatments spaced 7 to 14 days apart for best results.
^top
Will I see results from Fraxel Laser Treatment?
Absolutely! You will begin to notice improvement in skin texture, age spot reduction and fine line reduction after your first treatment. Optimal results are usually achieved in about two to three months, or between 3-6 sessions.
^top
Will you treat the whole area at once with Fraxel Laser?
Yes, the entire face is treated at each session, but the laser light is spaced in microscopic columns so that not all of the skin is treated at the same time. Fraxel targets about 15% of the skin's total surface during each session. This is why skin heals so naturally, with few side effects and minimal downtime.
^top
Does Fraxel Laser work anywhere?
People generally use this innovative procedure their face, neck, chest and hands. But, yes, it's safe enough to use just about anywhere.
^top
How will I look right after Fraxel Laser treatment?
Your skin will have a light pinkish tone for five to seven days. This is a normal sign of healthy healing. Swelling is minimal and usually subsides within three days. Your skin will probably take on a bronze look from three to 14 days, and may flake a bit as the damaged cells are vigorously exfoliated.
^top
Will my skin be sensitive after Fraxel Laser Treatment?
Your face will be sensitive to the sun, so you'll want to wear a high SPF sun block for several months following treatment. You can apply make-up or shave soon after treatment, and return to normal activities following treatment.
^top
How does the actual Fraxel Laser Treatment session work?
First, a topical anesthetic will be applied about 60 minutes before the laser treatment. Then, a water-soluble blue tint will be applied to the area to help highlight your skin's contours. This tint is washed off afterwards.
^top
How long does the Fraxel Laser Treament take?
The topical anesthetic takes 60 minutes to take effect, but the Fraxel Laser treatment only takes about 30 minutes.
^top
Does the Fraxel Laser Treatment hurt?
You will feel a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour after the procedure, but that's about it.
^top
What is Fraxel Treatment Therapy?
Fraxel is a unique laser therapy designed to dramatically repair fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars while improving skin texture and pigmentation.
^top
How does the Fraxel work?
The Fraxel SR Laser is specially designed to alter fractional volumes of the target tissue at a time. Similar to the digital altering of photographs and paintings, the clinical effect of this treatment technique is to alter the appearance of aging and sun-damaged skin. Unlike old ablative lasers that remove the top layer of skin, Fraxel produces tiny, microscopic areas of thermal impact separated by areas of unaffected healthy tissue. The healthy tissue between treatment areas contains viable cells that promote rapid healing of the outer skin layers. The creation of tiny microscopic wounds results in a wound healing process and coagulation of collagen fibers, resulting in overall skin improvement in the treated areas.
^top
What can I expect during a Fraxel treatment?
A topical anesthetic ointment will be applied and requires 60 minutes to take full effect. Then a FDA certified blue tint (OptiGuide Blue) will be applied to the skin along with another thin layer of topical anesthetic ointment. The treatment is then performed using the anesthetic ointment as the contact lubricant. The blue tint and anesthetic is washed off immediately after treatment. A treatment typically will take approximately 30 minutes.
^top

Juvederm Questions
How does JUVEDERM injectable gel work?
The smooth-consistency hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is quickly injected under your skin, where it instantly plumps your wrinkles and folds for a more youthful appearance. It has also been shown to increase your own collagen.
^top
How long does JUVEDERM last?
This is the best part. Juvederm is the only HA filler that’s FDA approved to last up to one year!
^top
Where can I use JUVEDERM?
JUVEDERM can effectively treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (parentheses) on the side of the cheeks. The staff at LazaDerm will recommend JUVEDERM for the procedures it is appropriate for.
^top
Does the JUVEDERM injection hurt?
You might feel a slight swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection site, but the procedure is well tolerated in most patients. Pain control is offered if you desire. The injection itself is a quick, out-patient procedure with immediate results and no downtime.
^top

Laser Genesis Questions
What is Laser Genesis?
Laser Genesis is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that reduces small imperfections such as facial vessels, acne scars, rosacea, sun damage, redness and wrinkles. It's perfect for targeting specific problems in small areas.
^top
Is Laser Genesis different than other laser treatments?
Unlike many other treatment methods, Laser Genesis is a comfortable, non-ablative form of skin therapy. This means you will see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Your therapy can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of general or local anesthesia, gel or cream.
^top
Will I need multiple Laser Genesis treatments?
Initial results are subtle. On average you may require 4 to 6 treatments in order to achieve the results you're looking for. Improvements will continue to be visible for 4 to 6 months after your last treatment. It is important for the clinical staff to have a clear understanding of your expectations to make sure they are realistic with this type of procedure.
^top
Is Laser Genesis safe?
Very. Any area of the body can be treated, and no numbing is necessary. You may see minor redness, but it will disappear within a few hours. Clients describe the activity as relaxing and therapeutic. There are virtually no other side effects.
^top
What does Laser Genesis do?
Laser Genesis is a non-ablative procedure that can reduce visible facial vessels, diffuse redness, acne scars, Rosacea, sun damage, large pores, and it has been FDA approved to reduce wrinkles by gently warming the upper dermis, improving the appearance of your skin. The result is a healthy looking and vibrant appearance.
^top
The Laser Genesis difference:
The Laser Genesis procedure utilizes laser technology that can safely, discretely and effectively treat small targets. Unlike many other treatment methods, Laser Genesis is a comfortable, non-ablative form of skin therapy. This means you will be able to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without the unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Your therapy can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of general or local anesthesia, gel or cream.
^top
What are facial vessels, telangiectasia, and diffused redness?
Telangiectasia or facial vessels are dilated capillaries that commonly appear on the surface of the face and in areas around the nose, cheeks and above the neckline. Capillaries are tiny blood vessels that are present throughout the body. Prolonged sun exposure, aging trauma and other factors can cause capillaries to become dilated and visible. There is also a hereditary factor in developing facial telangiectasia. Laser Genesis therapy will help your appearance by treating any visible trace of these unsightly veins. Diffuse redness is a general appearance of facial redness, such as rosy cheeks. As with facial telangiectasia, this condition is a result of dilated capillaries, however the appearance is more of a general redness rather than discrete well-defined vessels. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead and cheeks. Diffuse redness is often associated with a condition called Rosacea that can be hereditary. Laser Genesis therapy will help your appearance by gently treating and reducing this condition.
^top
What can I expect before the laser genesis treatment?
There are no complicated pretreatment rituals with this procedure. Prior to the actual Laser Genesis treatment you will be asked to remove your make-up or moisturizers and in some cases, you may be asked to shave the area to be treated so as not to interfere with the laser treatment. Your Laser Technologist will review and assist with all pretreatment requirements. There are no numbing creams used in this procedure.
^top
How many laser genesis treatments do I need?
The treatment results are often very subtle. On average you may require 4 to 6 treatments in order to achieve the results you are looking for. Every patient’s conditions and needs vary. Some conditions may require more treatments. It is important for the clinical staff to have a clear understanding of your expectations to make sure they are realistic with this type of procedure. For more information about your expected results or the number of treatments necessary, consult your Laser Technologist.
^top
Is the laser genesis treatment painful?
No, Laser Genesis is a comfortable, non-ablative, non-invasive treatment. Unlike other laser treatments it does not wound the skin’s surface therefore virtually eliminating the need for complicated post treatment care. Typically patients describe the treatment as a gentle warming of the surface.
^top
What results can I expect after the laser genesis treatment?
Immediately after the treatment you will experience some minor redness. The redness typically lasts only a few hours. Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic with visible results that are subtle yet noticeable. You can expect to immediately return to normal activities utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

Laser Hair Removal Questions
Laser Hair Removal Questions
How does Laser Hair Removal work?
In a nutshell, the laser is attracted to pigment in your hair follicles. The beam is aimed at unwanted hair, where it "pulses" down to the roots to disable growth.
^top
Does the hair fall out immediately?
You will notice a significant reduction right away. However, it will take 2 to 4 weeks for all of the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out.
^top
Will the hair grow back after Laser Hair Removal?
You will need a few follow-up treatments to adequately rid yourself of unwanted hair. A follow up appointment is scheduled 4 to 8 weeks after each treatment, and for successful results, it's critical to maintain these follow-up treatments
^top
How many follow-ups will I need after Laser Hair Removal?
Generally, five or six treatments are necessary. After that, many clients can discontinue the treatments with only periodic touch-ups. However, it is important to understand that results vary depending on hair type, stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels. Keeping in mind some individuals will require fewer treatments and some will require more treatments depending on the results desired.
^top
So is the removal permanent with Laser Hair Removal?
Although the FDA has not yet labeled it as such, we have seen that after 5 or 6 treatments, hair often does not reappear. Again, this varies from person to person.
^top
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
Most clients can tolerate the slight prickly or stinging sensation without any difficulty, but we do use a cooling system to cool the area and decrease your discomfort.
^top
Will the Hair Removal Laser damage my skin?
No. Your skin will turn red in the treated area, but this subsides within a few minutes up to a few hours, and then returns to normal. The laser is not invasive, so you can simply re-apply your make-up, and continue your normal daily activities following your office visit.
^top
Is anyone a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, light hair color (red, very blonde, white or gray) may not have enough pigment to be successfully treated with the laser. If this applies to you, we may want to test a spot to see if your hair responds to the laser.
^top
What is the advantage of using a laser?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. The laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like electrolysis. Because of this, large areas such as your legs, arms, or back can be treated in a short period of time. You will see results that last far longer than tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary methods.
^top
What does the laser treatment feel like?
The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. However, since every person’s level of sensitivity is different and treatment areas may vary, a topical numbing cream is available.
^top
What happens to the skin after laser treatment?
Reddening of the skin is the desired reaction. The redness usually subsides within a few minutes to a few hours and returns to normal. Since the laser is not invasive in any way, no bandages are necessary. You are able to re-apply your make-up, return to work and continue with your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.
^top
How many hair laser removal treatments will I need?
It has been our experience most of our patients are able to discontinue treatments, knowing they will probably need an occasional touchup, after an average of 5 to 6 treatments. This is providing that the recommended treatment schedule is followed. It is also important to understand, results may vary depending on the individuals hair type, their stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels. Keeping in mind some individuals will require fewer treatments and some will require more treatments depending on the results desired.
^top
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA has cleared laser hair removal regardless of the laser for “Permanent Hair Reduction” only. Based on our experience we believe that the hair treated will probably not re-grow. Each individual’s treatment response may be different because of their hair or skin type and that we have between 500 and 1000 follicles per square inch, of which many are dormant at the time of treatment, we have no way of knowing if and when they may start growing due to stress levels, certain medications and different hormone levels.
^top
What to expect after laser hair removal treatment:
After your initial treatment, you should enjoy a significant reduction of hair. However, it will take 2 to 4 weeks for the treated hair to push its way to the surface and fall out. With each treatment, the hair in the active growing phase will be effectively treated. A follow up appointment is scheduled in 4 to 8 weeks after each treatment. With that in mind remember the importance of maintaining your follow up appointments.
^top
What if I have gray, white, blonde, red or light fine hair?
Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, this hair color may not have enough pigment to be successfully treated with the laser. If this applies to you, we may want to try a test spot to see if your hair responds to the laser.

^top
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
You will feel a slight sensation, similar to a small rubber band snapping on the skin, during the burst of laser light pulses. Anesthesia creams are available if needed.
^top
Will the tattoo completely disappear with laser removal?

Laser Vein Reduction Questions
Laser Vein Reduction Questions
Will laser therapy work on my leg veins?
Although there is no way to tell for sure which veins will respond, a consultation to evaluate and access your veins will be required. Prior surgery or treatment on your veins could affect the treatment outcome. In some cases, further testing may be recommended to determine if there are underlying venous problems.
^top
What does laser treatment feel like?
Although many clients report little or no discomfort, some may experience a mild stinging sensation only when the laser pulse is delivered. The cold tip on the hand piece helps soothe the skin as the laser is delivered.
^top
How long will the laser treatment take?
Treatment time should be 15 to 30 minutes but may vary depending on the number and size of the vessel(s) to be treated.
^top
How many laser vein treatments will I need?
In many cases, significant improvement is realized in as few as 1 to 3 treatments. In some cases new spider veins may appear therefore, additional treatments may be necessary. Treatments may occur at 8 week intervals.
^top
When can I resume normal activities after laser vein treaments?
Although we encourage you to resume normal activities almost immediately, we do ask that you refrain from vigorous exercise and avoid hot tubs for at least 24 hours post treatment. Also avoid direct sun exposure after treatment and if you do go in the sun, protect the treated area with a minimum SPF 30 Sun Block (not sunscreen).
^top
What will the laser do to the veins?
When treating vascular lesions, the blood temperature at the targeted area is elevated to a level that causes coagulation without damage to the epidermis or surrounding tissue. Because the laser energy is absorbed by melanin in the epidermis, as well as the desired target of hemoglobin, the epidermal-cooling feature integrated in the hand piece is used to reduce the temperature rise in the epidermis. Multiple treatments may be necessary to obtain a satisfactory response for some leg veins.

What Does The Microlaser Peel Procedure Involve?
This advanced Sciton laser skin rejuvenating treatment precisely removes the outer most layer of skin. This removal of the dead layer and the thin layer of the epidermis helps smooth the skin’s surface while blending irregular pigmented age spots at the same time. The Microlaser Peel TM requires little down time, usually 2-4 days for your skin to heal resulting in smoother skin, smaller pores, and more even skin tone. A series of these gentle peels are as effective as other more invasive laser treatments, but without the weeks healing time and the risks of permanent pigment loss.

Photodynamic Therapy Questions
Photodynamic Therapy Questions
How does Photodynamic Therapy work?
Basically, we apply a photosensitizing compound (Levulan) to your skin before your treatment. The compound is absorbed by your abnormal skin cells, allowing the laser to penetrate and destroy them without harming your normal cells.
^top
Can anyone use Photodynamic Therapy?
We recommend photo facial for clients with actinic keratoses, moderate to severe acne and/or rosacea, or moderate to extensive sun damage and age spots.
^top
What results are expected with Photodynamic Therapy?
Results depend on the condition being treated. Acne and rosacea can be chronic conditions; therefore, maintenance treatments may be necessary to remain in remission.
^top
Will I need more than one Photodynamic Therapy treatment?
Generally, 3-6 treatments are required for optimal results.
^top
Can Photodynamic Therapy be used with other procedures?
That's usually how it works. Depending on the area being treated, microdermabrasion will be performed on the skin first. Then, Levulan will be applied and allowed to incubate for a specified amount of time. After that, the Levulan will be washed off with soap and water, and a laser treatment will follow. Because your skin will be very sensitive to the sun, we always apply sun block after the procedure.
^top
How long will my skin be sensitive to sunlight after Photodynamic Therapy?
About 48 hours. It's extremely important to stay out of the sunlight for this period of time, and an intense sun block with zinc oxide and SPF of 30 or higher should be worn even in the shade and in your car.
^top
Any other side effects for Photodynamic Therapy?
The majority of clients undergoing a photo facial have minimal discomfort with no adverse effects or very mild redness and peeling. About one quarter of clients will have redness and peeling with some discomfort that lasts for 2-3 days. This looks and feels similar to a sunburn. A very slight number of clients can have extreme redness, peeling, pustules and/or blisters as well as significant pain that can last for 5-10 days.
^top
So Photodynamic Therapy is not for everyone?
The staff will tell you if you're a good candidate for a photo facial. But, in general, if you are pregnant, have been on Accutane within 3 months, or have an active cold sore you should not have this procedure. If you are tan or have recently been exposed to the sun in the area you are having treated, you may be more susceptible to potential side effects, such as blisters or crusting. Your treatment may need to be reduced in intensity or postponed until the tan fades. You should not be treated with Levulan if you have skin sensitivity to blue light, porphyria (a disorder of the metabolism that can lead to sensitivity to light) or allergies to chemicals called porphyrins.
^top
What is Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a laser or light treatment that includes Levulan (Aminolevulinic acid), a photosensitizing compound. Levulan is applied 15 to 30 minutes before a treatment and is preferentially absorbed by certain cells such as precancerous skin cells, oil glands, pores and other structures, making them more sensitive to light. After the incubation period, a laser treatment using the Xeo is performed. Using this technology we can treat actinic keratoses, Rosacea, acne, photo damage and other conditions without surgery and/or medication.
^top
Who would benefit from Photodynamic Therapy?
Clients with actinic keratoses, moderate to severe acne and/or Rosacea, or moderate to extensive sun damage and age spots are good candidates for photodynamic therapy.
^top
What can I expect during Photodynamic Therapy treatment?
Depending on the area being treated, either an acetone wash or microdermabraision will be applied. Levulan will then be applied and allowed to incubate for a specified amount of time. After the incubation, the Levulan will be removed and the area will be cleansed with soap and water, and the laser treatment will follow. After the treatment, sunscreen will be applied.
^top
Who should not be treated with Levulan?
If you are pregnant, have been on Accutane within 3 months, or have an active cold sore you should not have this procedure. If you are tanned or have recently been exposed to the sun in the area you are having treated, you may be more susceptible to potential side effects, such as blisters or crusts and/or your treatment may need to be reduced in intensity or postponed until the tan fades. You should not be treated with Levulan if you have skin sensitivity to blue light, porphyria (a disorder of the metabolism that can lead to sensitivity to light), or allergies to chemicals called porphyrins.
^top
What are the side effects of Photodynamic Therapy?
The majority of clients undergoing photodynamic therapy have minimal discomfort with no adverse effects or very mild redness and peeling. About one quarter of clients will have redness and peeling with some discomfort that lasts for 2-3 days. This looks and feels similar to a sun-burn. A very slight number of clients can have extreme redness, peeling, pustules, and/or blisters as well as significant pain that can last for 5-10 days. After Levulan is applied; the area will be sensitive to sunlight or other intense light sources for 48 hours. It is very important to stay out of direct light, even prolonged exposure through a car window, for 24-36 hours. It is also extremely important that following a treatment a sunscreen with zinc oxide and SPF #30 or higher is used regularly for at least the first 48 hours following treatment.
^top
What results can I expect from Photodynamic Therapy?
Results depend on the condition being treated. Generally between three and five treatments are needed to receive optimal results. Acne and Rosacea can be chronic conditions; therefore, maintenance treatments may be necessary to remain in remission.

Radiesse Questions
What is RADIESSE?
RADIESSE dermal filler is made of unique, patented, calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. When injected into the skin, these microspheres initially perform as a filler. They immediately add facial volume for a soft, natural look. The transformation is noticeable right away. Over time, your body will gradually absorb the gel carrier, but the very tiny, smooth microspheres remain.
^top
Is RADIESSE dermal filler safe?
In years of rigorous clinical testing and use by physicians, RADIESSE dermal filler has been proven to be safe and effective. RADIESSE dermal filler does not contain any animal or human-derived components and it has a minimal risk of allergic reaction.
After injection, RADIESSE dermal filler will not migrate to other parts of the body. Over time, it degrades naturally into calcium and phosphate ions that are safely metabolized by the body’s own processes.
^top
How is Radiesse treatment performed?
RADIESSE dermal filler is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, quick, and minimally invasive outpatient procedure.
^top
Are there any side effects to Radiesse?
There have been very few side effects reported in clinical trials and actual usage. However, you may experience some common injection-related reactions, such as mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site. These conditions typically resolve themselves within one or two days.
^top
How soon can I expect results Radiesse?
You’ll see results immediately after treatment. RADIESSE dermal filler continues to deliver results over time as it stimulates your body to produce new collagen. Results may last up to a year or more in many patients, which may result in fewer office visits for re-treatment.

^top
What is Radiesse made of?
Radiesse is comprised of micro spheres of calcium hydroxylapatite, suspended in an aqueous gel. Calcium is a natural substance already in the body, so Radiesse will cause no allergic reaction.
^top
What should I do prior to treatment?
Radiesse requires no pre-testing, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. To decrease the chance of bruising or bleeding at the injection site, avoid using aspirin, ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements one week prior to treatment. Also, please inform us if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores as there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.
^top
Do the Radiesse injections hurt?
Dr Hansen will inject the area with a local anesthetic prior to the treatment to optimize your comfort during the short procedure. As Radiesse is gently injected by an ultra fine needle, it builds up the tissues of the face, reducing folds and creases and restoring fullness.
^top
How long does Radiesse last?
Research has shown that the average treatment results last 9 months to one year.

Skin Tyte/Titan Questions
Skin Tyte/Titan Questions
How does Skin Tyte/Titan work?
The Skin Tyte/Titan is a 100% light-based instrument that heats the second layer of skin (dermis) which stimulates long-term collagen production and contraction, while preserving the outer layer of skin through continuous cooling.
^top
Why do I want to stimulate collagen rebuilding?
As you age, collagen production in your skin begins to decline, causing your skin to become thin, dry and wrinkled. The skin you had in your youth produced more collagen, giving you the tight, smooth skin you desire. The more collagen you have, the better your skin looks.
^top
Is Skin Titan safe?
Yes. The Titan offers a superior safety record with very reproducible results. Most people find any pain to be minimal.
^top
What areas can be treated with Skin Titan?
The Titan procedure treats lax skin throughout the body - including the abdomen, thighs and underarms - and is also used to tone, lift and tighten skin on the face and neck.
^top
How many treatments of Skin Tite will I need?
Generally speaking, two to four treatments sessions are required, scheduled about a month apart.
^top
Can I do Skin Tyte over lunch?
Absolutely. Most treatments take about an hour, and you won't see any negative effects on the skin. You can return to regular activities immediately following the procedure.
^top
What is the Titan procedure?
The Titan procedure is a safe, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source to tighten skin and reverse the signs of aging. The Titan can stimulate long-term collagen rebuilding that leaves younger looking skin.
^top
How does the Titan differ from Thermage?
It differs markedly from Thermage and other radiofrequency systems in that it is 100% light based. This leads to greater safety and more predictable flow of heat through tissue, giving it a superior safety record and very reproducible results.
^top
What areas can be treated with Titan?
The Titan procedure treats lax and redundant skin throughout the body – including the abdomen, thighs and underarms – and is also used to tone, lift and tighten skin on the face and neck.
^top
How many SkinTyte/Titan treatments will I need?
Generally speaking from 2 - 5 treatment sessions are required, scheduled 2 to 4 weeks apart.
^top
How long will the Titan treatment take?
Most treatments require about 30 minutes to an hour of time depending on the area being treated.
^top
Is the Titan treatment painful?
Most people find the treatments painless. No pre-medication or sedation is needed.
^top
What can I expect after the SkinTyte/Titan treatment?

Thermage™ Questions
How does Thermage work?
The professionals at LazaDerm use patented radiofrequency technology to “heat up” the dermis and the underlying tissue. At the same time the epidermis is protected with continual cooling. Heating of the collagen to critical temperatures causes the collagen to contract and thicken. This process, called denaturation, provides the initial results of tighter, smoother looking skin.
^top
How is Thermage different?
While there are a number of procedures available that affect collagen, only the Thermage procedure offers a completely non-invasive, no-downtime method to tighten loose skin.
^top
What kind or results can I expect from Thermage?
Results vary from subtle to dramatic. Generally improvements are immediately visible and continue for up to six months. Results are long lasting depending on your skin condition and the aging process.
^top
Can I use Thermage anywhere?
Just about. The Thermage system can be used on the stomach, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, face, neck, and around the eyes. In addition to tightening and firming, it can also be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
^top
Is Thermage safe?
Yes, Thermage is safer than invasive cosmetic procedures. And unlike lasers, Thermage works on all skin types and colors.
^top
How many Thermage treatments can I expect?
This is the best part! You only need one Thermage treatment to obtain the full benefits, not three to five as you would with some laser therapies. And there is no downtime, so you can quickly resume your daily routine.
^top
Is Thermage safe?
It is very safe! The ThermaCool TC system by Thermage that we use is FDA approved. Thermage has been carefully studied and use by hundreds of patients with only minimal side effects and no lasting adverse effects. Before receiving FDA approval, Thermage treatment was approved by the Canadian HPB as a non-surgical browlift and for non-surgical tightening of periorbital (around the eyes) wrinkles and facial wrinkles.
^top
How is Thermage done?
The main structural component of the skin is a protein called “collagen”. Collagen provides the skin with its strength. As we age, our bodies produce less and less collagen and then we begin to notice sagging, wrinkles, and loss of facial contour and also sagging under the arms, the buttocks, legs and other body areas. The Thermage procedure uses patented radio frequency technology to create a precisely controlled zone of heating in the dermis (deep layer of the skin) and in the underlying tissue. At the same time the epidermis (visible outer skin) is being protected by continual cooling. This “heating” causes the “collagen” to tighten thereby reducing skin laxity, wrinkles and renewing the contour of the face and other treated body areas. Thermage treatment also causes new collagen production to occur over time. Thermage is the only non-invasive, non-surgical method available today to effectively tighten loose skin and achieve a “non-surgical” lift.
^top
Where is Thermage performed and how long does it take?
Dr Hansen is very skilled and an expert in performing Thermage treatments. Thermage is preformed right in our office suite on an outpatient basis. Generally, Thermage treatments take less than an hour – but the time will vary based on the size of the area being treated.
^top
How does Thermage compare to Titan?
Thermage is FDA approved for treating certain wrinkles, and can achieve in a single treatment what may take Titan several treatments. Thermage uses RF (Radiofrequency) which is proven to treat wrinkles. Lastly, Thermage has been used for several years where as the Titan has only been FDA approved for a few years.
^top
What does Thermage feel like – Is it painful?
NO – it is not painful. Our clients usually experience a brief “hot” sensation followed by an immediate cool sensation. This is caused by the “pulsing” from the radio frequency instrument used to perform this procedure. One hour before your treatment – an anesthetic cream is applied to the area to minimize the hot-cool sensations. Your comfort is our primary concern.
^top
How will I look right after the treatment – are there any side effects?
Most patients experience some redness - which goes away in few hours. Dr. Hansen personally performs the treatment to ensure minimal risks and a positive, more youthful outcome for you!
^top
How soon are results noticeable after the Thermage treatment – how long do the results last?
Initial results are visible within a few weeks as “tightening, smoothing, improved tone and texture” is seen in the treated areas. The long-term results occur over time as the healthier collagen tightens and wrinkles lessen. Studies show that the results can last from up to eighteen months to several years – all depending upon the individual aging process.
^top
How many Thermage treatments are required – how much will is cost?
One single treatment can produce excellent results – but some patients may require more. We generally recommend one treatment to each specific area being treated. New studies will show us how to change treatment plans. Cost varies and is determined by the extent of your procedure as it is customized just for you.
^top
When can I return to my normal routine?
Immediately! Remember – this is a non-surgical procedure and there is usually NO downtime. You may experience some redness – but this usually resolves itself shortly after the treatment.
